Stainless steel

Corrosion resistance, moldability and precision.

Stainless steel does not rust because it contains chromium, which forms a thin film of
chromium oxide on the surface. A chromium content of at least 12-13% is usually specified for
the steel to be considered a stainless steel. This makes it well suited for use
in environments where it can be exposed to external influences of moisture, acids, heat, etc.

Choosing the right stainless steel

It is important that the correct stainless steel material grade is selected depending on the environment it is exposed to. Severe corrosive environments require higher alloy stainless steels.
Stainless steels can generally withstand higher temperatures, but even in this case, the right material grade must be selected depending on the current temperature range. The material has a surface that many find suitable where the visual aspect is important. It is also hygienic and easy to clean, which means that it is used in the medical, food and automotive industries. In this area, we have stainless spring strips/spring steel, acid-resistant strip steel, hardenable martensitic strip steel and also stainless strips for difficult forming as well as deep drawing. We can supply either in coil, ring, cut lengths or sheets. Cut edge, planed round edge etc. designs, completely according to your wishes.

We mainly supply these groups of stainless steels.
- Austenitic stainless steels
- Ferritic stainless steels
- Martensitic stainless steels

Our stainless steel

Austenitic stainless steels

Austenitic stainless steels are alloyed with other metals, such as chromium,
manganese and nickel, among others. The material has good to excellent corrosion resistance
combined with very good weldability and formability. The steel is used
where there are high demands on spring function and high strength.
Austenitic steel is also common where the need for good forming properties
is important, such as in bending and deep drawing. The austenitic
structure has good creep resistance and good oxidation resistance, which makes
them useful in elevated temperatures. Austenitic steels can also
be used in cryogenic applications, i.e. at very low temperatures.

The material is normally non-magnetic, but becomes weakly magnetic in
hard rolling, such as spring steel 1.4310.

Ferritic steels

Ferritic stainless steels have good resistance to stress corrosion cracking in particular and are also magnetic. They have good heat resistance and
resistance to oxidation. They have low carbon content and low or no nickel and do not have the same good formability and weldability as the austenitic ones. Due to their low nickel content, ferrites generally have a lower price than the austenitic ones and are mainly used where good formability and good weldability are of less importance. They are used, for example, for various parts in exhaust systems, commercial kitchen equipment and white goods such as refrigerators and freezers.

Martensitic hardenable steels

Martensitic stainless steels are hardenable and, after hardening, have high hardness
and wear resistance, high yield and ultimate strength. The hardness after hardening
is determined by the carbon content and the heat treatment parameters. It is used
for various types of cutting applications such as knives and
cutting tools, garden tools, surgical instruments, measuring tools, etc. We
provide martensitic steels in both unhardened and hardened condition. As
with hardened carbon steel, the formability of hardened stainless is severely limited. These steels are magnetic.
