RAWAEL 90 replaced C35E in a component for railway industry.
The benefits of RAWAEL 90 to this application:
-
WM Press could avoid piece hardening with all its drawbacks.
-
No transportation cost to an external hardening plant.
-
No deformation hence no sorting after hardening
-
No cassation
-
Half the lead-time
-
Smooth mechanical properties
-
Cost saving!
Strip Steel in grade C35E was delivered to WM press in annealed condition. Thereafter there was a stamping process followed by pressing. In order to achieve adequate strength the parts were sent to piece hardening at a sub contractor. The hardening process resulted in destortion, as always during piece hardening, which led to sorting, straightening and scrap.
Piece hardening, transportation to the piece hardening, sorting, straightening and scrap of destorted parts led to unnecessary costs. In addition, the large number of production steps led to a long lead-time and a large amount of material in circulation.
After discussions with WM Press based on drawings and specifications, ScanStrip suggested RAWAEL 90- a micro alloyed high tensile steel with narrow tolerances and good formability. WM Press made a slight adjustment of a radius and thereafter serial production ran without problems.
